London Vet Show Speaker of the week…

Roger Blowey BSc., BVSc., FRCS, FRAgS, Farm Animal Vet, Wood Veterinary Group

RCVS Specialist in Cattle health and Production (dairy)
Now self-employed, Roger Blowey was formerly  a partner in an 11-person mixed practice in Gloucester, UK, and has spent over 40 years involved with farm animal medicine, specialising in lameness and mastitis in dairy cattle, and a range of health issues in pigs. He is a well-known speaker both at home and overseas, the author of a range of scientific papers and several textbooks, and currently delivers practical lectures at three of the UK vet schools on a part time basis.

Session Title:
First time on the farm; things I wished I’d known then

Even 45 years later, I can still remember some of my first farm visits, some of the mistakes I made and some of the questions I could not answer. Looking back I also remember those occasions when I did not handle situations as tactfully or appropriately as I might have done, and in some instances lost clients as a result. The opportunities for research from general practice are enormous; you simply have to observe, be aware of something different and record. As examples  I have been able to develop disease monitoring systems, record pig leg lesions, and the first appearance of digital dermatitis.

Roger is just one of hundreds of speakers at this year’s London Vet Show.
